![]() This was annoying and a pain point for a lot of players at times. In D3 people fished for rifts with good tilesets or mobs. The other side of the coin to varied dungeons is massive difficulty swings. ![]() When I open a dungeon in D4 i know more or less exactly what to expect, and this is a negative to me. Sure its kill mobs -> kill boss, but D4 dungeon objectives are really not any more interesting than that in my opinion. When I open a rift, I don't know what tileset or set of mobs i'm going to get. I guess this does vary gameplay but it doesn't feel more varied to me than rifts, i actually feel the opposite is true. The objectives are kind of varied but they aren't interesting at all - "kill X rare monster." -> "collect animus and put it in urn" -> "kill boss" - pretty quickly you start knowing what each dungeon is, what objectives it has, what mobs it has, etc. Just saying that the recent formula of the last two games has gotten a bit bland. I wouldn't say I prefer one more than the other. I'm an equal opportunity kind of player with regard to both games. And to put some context around all of this, I've played at least 9,000 hours of D3, which is about as much as I've played in D2 throughout my lifetime. But the truth is if that's all they do, most of us will get bored with it quickly, the way a lot of us did with D3. ![]() I'm just a little worried that they're going to slap a different color coat of paint on the same thing and call it by a different name and then give it to us players and be like look at this amazing game we've created for you, hope you enjoy it. If the developers can truly come up with actually unique and novel gameplay experiences to fill these nightmare dungeons with, then I'm all for it. I'm just tired of the same thing being called multiple different names. You go to a certain place that's already marked for you on the mini map, you click on a thing, and you kill the enemies within the vicinity. Going over and closing the hell portals is the same thing as rescuing the trapped soldiers. Though that is technically different from a similar bounty where you have to go and close the hell portals in act 4, at the core of it though it's really the same thing. You basically run up to them, kill the enemies around them, then click the thing and wait for a 3 second cast bar to complete. In D3 bounties, there's one where you have to rescue trapped soldiers or prisoners. If the objective is "protect this soldier from the enemies approaching for the next 30 seconds" - to me that's just the exact same thing as "kill all monsters in cave level 1" but it was given a different name so that it is perceived as more than just monster slaying, even though it's fundamentally not much different from "kill all enemies in cave level 1." The goal is still to take some particular amount of time to kill some particular amount of enemies. ![]() The only caveat where I have a concern is if these objectives feel a lot like Diablo 3 bounty objectives.
